Church School Began
September 11th -
It's Not Too Late to Get Started!
Saint James offers the following Educational
Programs:
Church School
Our Church School program covers children and youth from birth through
grade 12. Children from birth through two, and three and four year olds
meet in their individual rooms from 10:00 AM until 11:30. All other children
and youth from kindergarten through grade 12 attend worship with their
families and friends. They are dismissed from the worship service to their
church school classrooms at 10:30 AM. Church school classes meet from
10:30 to 11:30 AM. A coffee hour is provided each Sunday following the
worship service. The children and youth usually join into this at 11:30
AM.
The United Church of Christ curriculum called Bible Quest has been chosen
for our classes from birth through grade 8. It is a Bible story based
curriculum. Our children will hear a Bible story each Sunday, learn about
it and then hopefully be able to retell it to others. In this way the
Bible stories become more than just stories. They become part of their
every day living.
Our high school youth in grades 9 through 12, meet at the youth house
from 10:30 to 11:30 AM each Sunday morning. They are involved in mini
courses of four or five weeks in length. These focus on Bible studies
as well as issues which the youth must face in their daily living. Course
leaders try to encourage discussion and involvement of the youth in each
session.
Our church school staff consists of about fifty five teachers and assistants,
which may be either adult or youth. St. James is truly dedicated to providing
a high priority program in Christian education.
Adult Education
Adults may engage in Bible study groups on a weekly basis. Other studies
may be established centering on issues or book studies.
Church Library
Adults, youth and children will find a church library in the lounge. New
selections are added to all age levels through the year. A card catalog
is available which categorizes the books by author and title. Books can
be borrowed for a month at a time by signing the card in the book pocket
at the back of the book and leaving it in the sign out box. Suggestions
for new additions are welcomed.
Middle School Youth Group
The Middle School Youth Group is open to all 6th - 8th grade youth and
their friends. The group meets once a month and plans other activities
according to the interest of the members. Fundraisers have been held several
times a year. At least one retreat has been planned for each year. Service
projects, fun activities and exploration of the Christian faith are all
part of the group=s activities. Four advisers and parent helpers watch
over the group.
